Ports & Posture (what “fits” most operators)

  • Height: aim for elbow-height ports. Typical ranges that test well:
    • Standing: 1050–1150 mm port centerline from floor.
    • Seated: 920–1000 mm with an adjustable stool.
    • If multiple users: add ±50 mm height adjust on the stand/feet.
  • Spacing: ≥520 mm between centers (most prefer 560–600 mm).
  • Angle/front slope: a 5–10° front panel slope or slight downward port tilt reduces wrist extension.
  • Toe-kick/knee space: 100–150 mm deep × 80–120 mm high to let users stand closer or tuck feet when seated.
  • Edges: radius ≥ 3 mm on front cutouts; add soft forearm pads where wrists rest.

Reach Envelope (speed without strain)

  • Keep frequent tools and parts in the 150–300 mm zone; heavy items ≤300 mm from midline.
  • Shelves at mid-torso height; avoid sustained shoulder lift >60°.
  • Mount balance/microscope so eyes look slightly down (10–15°), not up.

Lighting & Visibility (see more, squint less)

  • Illuminance: 500–1000 lux at the work plane (fine assembly likes the upper end).
  • Color: CRI ≥90, 4000–5000 K neutral white for true color and low eye strain.
  • Glare control: diffuse or angled fixtures to avoid window reflections; matte interiors help.
  • Windows: choose hard-coat PC for impact or laminated glass for scratch/solvent resistance; clean with approved agents only.

Gloves, Seating & Small Stuff (fatigue killers)

  • Gloves: thin (12–16 mil) for dexterity; thick (20–30 mil) for durability/solvents.
  • Stool: adjustable height, foot-ring support, slight forward seat tilt to open the hip angle.
  • ESD: dissipative mat tied to a single-point ground; wrist-strap snap reachable without twisting.
  • Controls: primary buttons/GUI within 300 mm of the port centerline; big fonts, high contrast.

Acoustics & Vibration

  • Keep SPL near the operator ≤60–65 dBA; isolate pumps with short, straight hoses and anti-vibration feet.
  • For balances/microscopes, add damping pads and keep fans from blowing across the work.
